Methodology
- Crime figures are reported by NSW BOCSAR at suburb (locality) level and matched to our seeded SA2 suburbs by locality name — a compound SA2 name (e.g. "Castle Hill - East") may not have a matching BOCSAR locality where BOCSAR reports the whole area as one undivided suburb, so not every seeded suburb has a figure.
- Metric: total reported offences per 100,000 residents, computed from BOCSAR's raw monthly counts against each suburb's latest ABS estimated resident population, summed across every offence category BOCSAR publishes for the last 12 months of data — one composite figure, not a category breakdown.
- Suburbs with fewer than 500 usual residents at the 2021 Census are excluded, to avoid noisy rates at either extreme from a tiny sample — the same population floor used on our Census-gated rankings.
- Reporting period: a rolling 12 months of QPS data, to June 2026.
